LED Airport Lighting

How to Light Up an Airport?

The different parts of the airport require 24 hours lighting, such as waiting room, hangar, terminal, arrival and departure hall, apron, baggage transfer center and so on. LED flood light is a relatively energy-efficient solution when comparing to metal halide, halogen and HPS lamps. For indoors, doing the led replacement reduces the glare and thus makes passengers more comfortable when using the airport facilities. For outdoor, due to the popularity of high power led high mast light, the airport runway and apron areas are brighter, without consuming much energy.

Various ground handling services on the airport apron, such as replenishment of airlines, loading and unloading of luggage, and back-propelled aircraft, rely on high mast lighting. The new LED lamp is highly efficient and reliable. It is not only lighter and more durable than the current high-pressure sodium lamps and has a higher color rendering. It can also instantly restore lighting when the power is suddenly reduced (instant on-off ability). The power consumption is also lower than that of conventional HID lighting devices. It is more environmentally friendly.

At the time of design, we must also consider such areas as bearing weight, lighting projection angle and installation of automatic signal switching systems. In addition, the operation of the apron lighting system directly affects aircraft safety and ground handling services. Therefore, the entire design and installation of the high mast airport lighting system is strictly regulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization. In particular, we use a computer simulation system such as DIALux and Relux to design the arrangement of LED lights to ensure that the design meets international standards.

After the led replacement, the immediate effect is the enhancement of brightness, which allows the crew to have better vision.
