How to light the table tennis table by using LED?

To provide the best lighting system for playing this vigorous sport, we need to classify their use, such as for recreational, training or professional matches. It is because various types of venues have their own standard on the Ping Pong room lights. Generally, flood lamp having 100, 200, 300 watt, and up to 500 to 1000 watt LED flood lamp are used. Depending on the size & nature of table tennis court, we use different combination of luminaries.

If the application is for citizens’ recreational use, the lighting for table tennis table takes around 200 to 250 lux. But now the question is how to light up the ping pong table by appropriate lighting system? To reserve the space for the player, a standard size for one table room is approx. 5.5m * 3.4m = 19 square meters. And then, we can calculate the power equivalent: the lumens required = 19 * 250 = 4750lm. If you use LED flood lamps for the tables, the power is 40 watt, while this value raised to 100 watt for MH, and 400 watt for halogen. And thus, we can see the LED is a more energy saving luminary.

Similarly, for the Olympic Games, World Table Tennis Championships, USATT and ALN Cup such kind of professional tournament, the requirement for indoor table tennis arena lighting is more rigorous, which takes about 1000 lux! After solving the quantity (power), the next step is to consider the quality of light. Generally speaking, the Olympic table tennis stadium lamps should have the highest standard that having no flickering or glare when the player accidentally look at the direct light source. The uniform, and bright illumination can help increase the performance of the players, as they are moving around the small ping pong table, they need to be more focusing on the bouncing ball.

Features of LED lamp for table tennis room

Apart from white light, there are large variety of color that can be used to light the rooms. For example, we can select yellow color (lower color temperature) to have a more comfy and relaxing environment for audiences and competitors. Some clients also reflect that their current halogen or metal halide bulbs are easy to get heat, or even overheating. It is because much energy is wasted during the start up process. About 60-70% energy is converted to heat for these types of bulbs. However, after the replacement of LED lights inside table tennis room, this energy wastage declines to 5%. LED is regarded as a “cool” light source that offer effective illumination. Its long life span also reduce your maintenance rate and cost.
