Building up a high-quality squash court lighting system, there will always factors that you need to take special care. The brightness is always the priority. Since basically a racquetball court is in a relatively smaller indoor area, lower height, and the ball is basically running in high speed, the brightness must maintain relatively good. Thus, the idea is that we suggest lighting a racquetball court with at least 500 lux outdoor luminary fitting. (vertical, horizontal brightness, and eyes brightness). The LED squash court lights replace metal halide, fluorescent, halogen or HPS flood lamps because of its higher energy efficiency. 100, 300 400 watt to 1000 watt LED lamps are available.
Factors to be considered for squash court lights
High Brightness basically goes with high glare rate, and this is the big enemy for high speed sports. So, another issue that might be the 2nd priority is the Glare Rate. We basically evaluate this by UGR. There have been quite several techniques on this, either on design of optics, or on the layout, positioning, and installation of the lamps.
Color Temperature and CRI is also a very important factor to consider. We normally need a sunlight-tight configuration so that the player can feel quite nature, this would make the illumination eyes-friendly and camera friendly.
Next, we need to consider durability. It would be more practical to adopt LED instead of fluorescent inside the court because of the fast-moving balls. The fluorescent tube is more brittle before the replacement of LED lamps.
Although flickering rate is only considered when there comes video shooting, but a recent study shows that poor flickering rate would cause eye-fatigue easily, which greatly affect the performance of racquetball players, so we suggest a very low flickering rate is also a key to high quality. The LED lights for squash court has flickering rage lower than 0.3% and fluctuation attitude below 0.5%, which is significantly lower than conventional HID or HPS lighting.
Finally, High IK rate is very necessary since there will be chances that ball might impact the light with heavy speed. An IK10 rated light is very necessary and will offer this shock / impact proof ability quite sound and good.
