LED Paint Booth Lighting

Model No: LS-FLN-100/200/300

What is a paint booth? It is a place where you can do the painting work for vehicles or aircraft. A high-quality spray booth should be able to filter contaminants and installed with high-efficient ventilation system for flammable chemicals to guarantee the safety of the workers. Besides, lighting is also an indispensable part of paint booth. LED lighting is the best solution because of its high CRI, energy efficiency, waterproof, explosion proof and anti-glare optics, which is less likely to achieve before metal halide, halogen, HPS or fluorescent replacement with LED.

Let’s explore our buyer’s guide and the strengths of our products.

Safety Requirements of Paint Booth Lighting

Tips 1. Looking for Explosion-proof LED Lights

In light with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a paint booth is a class I division one area, which means an area where ignitable or flammable chemical in aqueous or gaseous states exist in the area. Since all electrical appliances in the spray booth, including the lights and other machines, must be protected from ignition, we have the special consideration of the LED lights. To improve the safety, we adopt low power, high luminous efficiency LED chips to make the total power drawn from the lights as low as possible. Tips 2. High Temperature Resistant & Waterproof LED Lights are Necessary.

Heat plays a vital role in the drying process after finishing the spray. The interior temperature of the drying room should be at least 55°C for the better finishing. The duration and temperature of coating process needs varies with different paints you use. But 55°C is a bottom line. A widely accepted rule in spraying industry is that for every 15 degrees above 70 degrees, the speed of the drying process will be doubled. On the contrary, for every 15 degrees below 70 degrees, the process will take 2 time longer. And hence, we understand that the ambient temperature inside the paint booth and drying room is quite high.

Our LED lights resists high temperature up to 90°C inside the paint booth because of our exclusive heat dissipation system, quality chips and heat-resistant Meanwell power supply. We adopt 7 watt & 5 watt single LED chips. Their luminous efficiency reaches 160 lm/w and 180 lm/w respectively. With such the high energy efficiency, there’s a significant reduction in heat generation.

Since the relative humidity is usually very high, we also add waterproof function (IP66) for our paint booth LED lights. Here is a video demonstrating the heat-proof function of our products.

Tips 3. Less Glare Helps Increases Productivity

Glare on the vehicle surface affect the vision of the spray worker. How to solve this problem by LED lights? First, we can use the lamps having built-in anti-glare lens to reduce the dazzling effect up to 60% when the lights shine on the reflective surface or cars or airplanes.

Another approach is to utilize indirect lighting. By facing the light to the ceiling instead of the ground, we can use to reflected light for the spray work. Hence, the workers have no need to frequently adjust their position to avoid the glare. This method also prevents the people from directly looking at the bright light.

Tips 4. Sufficient Brightness and Uniformity

How to light up the paint booth properly? Inadequate lighting leads to many undesirable outcomes. Appropriate lighting allows us to complete the work and spot the potential danger immediately.

The recommend brightness is around 300 lux. For each 100 sq. meters, we will need at least 100 * 300 = 30000 lumens (lm), which is equivalent to 30000 lm / 160 lm/W = 188W LED lights. For other dimension and brightness, please approach our engineer for further information.

After tackling the power, we also need to have a look at the uniformity. It indicates how the lights are evenly spread across the entire area. Poor lighting uniformity makes the spray worker uncomfortable.

Tips 5. Placement and Beam Angle of the Lights

There are three installation method for the LED lights which are wall mount, ceiling mount and the combination of both. Since paint booth is usually spacious, wider beam angle is recommended. We have 120-degree beam angle LED lights to give the booth nice and even coverage. The general idea is that using larger angle light can enhance the uniformity. Surely it depends on the actual height and area of your paint booth.

Tips 6. High Color Rendering Index

To see the genuine color of the paint, we need to use lighting having high CRI. Sunlight is 100 because we can see the true color of the objects. Our LED lights have CRI up to 80 to 90 for spray workshop. And hence you have no need to worry about the colors are deviated outside the booth.
