Explosion Proof Lighting

LED Substation Lighting – Nuclear Power Plant Lights

LED-Substation-Lighting-and-Nuclear-Power-Plant-Lights

Reliable substation yard lighting is crucial for security and daily maintenance. Bright illumination across the nuclear power station not only avoid the trespasser, but assist the electricians to do the inspection on the electricity tower and power lines at night.

You can enjoy many benefits after doing the LED replacement for metal halide, HPS and mercury vapor lighting fixtures. For instance, LED saves 75% to 90% energy than the traditional HID lighting solution, and our lighting products last for at least 80000 hours, which greatly reduce your maintenance and running cost.

Our substation flood lighting system is designed for harsh environments such as high ambient temperature, humid and radiation-filled reactors. Let’s explore how to light up the electrical substation and the nuclear power station.

Substation Lighting Design Standards

LED-outdoor-substation-yard-lightsOur versatile high-temperature and explosion-proof LED lights can be applied to different parts of electrical generation and distribution system, such as transmission, distribution tower, collector and so on. To provide you with the best solution, we customize the LED flood lights having different power, beam angle, heat resistance, and etc. Let’s consider the below lighting requirement for the substation and other energy facilities.

1. Brightness (Lux) Level for Outdoor Substation Lighting

According to the National Electrical Safety Code Interpretation, the brightness level for substation is 22 lux. However, it only describes the general area inside the power plant. To provide better lighting experience for electricians and engineers, we recommend 100 to 200 lux for the maintenance area.

For the security purpose, sometimes we will need at least 30 to 50 lux at the entrance and exit. It is because the CCTV and barely capture the video and image at 20 to 30 lux; hence, we need extra illumination to have better security.

As for the indoor lighting lux level for nuclear power plant, it takes around 200 to 300 lux, for the operators, dispatchers and other workers to inspect and manage the electricity generation system.

We offer customized power plant and substation lighting design service that satisfies the unique requirement.

2. Lighting Uniformity Requirement

Uniformity is one of the major issues we need to handle when it comes to lighting quality. The best lighting system should have high uniformity (0.5 to 0.6). It describes that ratio between the minimum to average or minimum to maximum ground illuminance of the yard. Theoretically if the uniformity is 1, which means the brightness is the same across the whole area.

To improve the uniformity, we can adopt the flood lamp with larger beam angle and anti-glare optics. Our lighting engineers and designers are eager to solve your issues.

3. Waterproof Outdoor LED

outdoor-substation-yard-LED-lighting-that-is-waterproofFor the outdoor switchyard lighting fixtures, it is essential to make sure they are water-proof and dust-proof. It is because the luminaires are mounted to the poles, and thus they will be exposed to all kinds of adverse weather conditions. Our LED lamps have the IP66 waterproof function, and thus they can function normally in bad weathers.

4. Solar and Motion Sensing Lighting

By installing solar lights inside the switchyard, we can further reduce the energy consumption. Our flood lamps are compatible to the solar powered panel, which converts the sunlight to electrical energy. Depending on the power of the luminaires, they deliver continuous lighting up to 4 to 6 hours upon fully charged.

Since the energy conversion efficiency is not very high at this moment, we can combine the use of motion sensor that activates the lights when someone approaches the field. It provides the handy and automatic control of the lights.

5. High Temperature Lighting for Nuclear Power Station

Our heat-proof LED lights resist high ambient temperature up to 100°C. As illustrated in the below video, our flood lights work normally even in boiling water. Let’s approach our sales representatives for more info.

Advantages of our LED Lighting Solution for Power Station

1. Lighting that Works Under Radiation and Electromagnetic Wave

The LED lights will not be affected by the electromagnetic radiation inside the nuclear power plant.

2. Heat-proof Lighting for Emergency

In case of fire emergency, bright lighting inside the power plant can save many lives. Our LED products resist high temperature and work under extremely high temperature.

3. Flicker-free Illumination

Flickering is the one of the common issues of fluorescent light. We should avoid strobing lights inside the industrial areas because it does strain the eyes of operators. Nonetheless, our LED lights are flicker-free, which provides a more comfortable working environment for substation tech

4. Energy Efficiency (Reducing Your Running Cost on Nuclear Power Plant Lights)

Comparing to metal halide, mercury vapor, fluorescent light or halogen lights, LED is more energy-saving because of its higher luminous efficacy. It means that LED emits brighter light than the conventional HID lighting solution. The 400 watt LED light can generate the more or less the same brightness of 1000 watt metal halide, and 4000 watt halogen bulb. Hence, the lighting electricity cost can be reduced. One of our clients save up to $8000 per year on running cost for a large-scale project.
